St. Peter's Church - Ladies Sodality (estd. 1888)

Annual Report of the Ladies’ Sodality -2010

It is my pleasure to present the Report of Our Sodality under the title of Our Lady’s Assumption for the year 2009-2010. Our Sodalists are all Senior Citizens, most of us (75+) years old, but we meet faithfully every Tuesday, to give honour and glory to Mary our Mother and her son, Jesus. Our members have dwindled down to 40 on our rolls, including 18 housebound.

We are glad to welcome our new Director, Fr. Jude Fernandes, who has taken over from Fr. Albert Jou, who served us well for 13 years, but is in indifferent health now.

Fr. Jude  though very busy as Principal of St. Stanislaus High School, comes to us on the first Tuesday of the month and has spoken to us on several important, relevant and interesting topics which brings us up to date on Church and State and World affairs thus making us feel  younger and alert to what is happening around us and what we can do in our own small way to better the situation.

Sr. Sumitra from St. Joseph’s Convent also comes to us when she can spare the time. We really appreciated her reflections on “Building Bridges, “Hands” to name a few.

Fr. Gerard Rodricks spoke to us about “Judging other” and our “Christian Calling”. He has said goodbye to us and gone to another Parish and we are still feeling his loss. God bless you, Fr. Gerard.

We also had the privilege of having Fr. Charles Rodrigues at some meetings. We particularly enjoyed his sharings on “Close Encounters with Jesus”.

Then there was Fr. John Lobo’s talk on the Mass, Elsa’s reflection on Our Lady praying the Rosary for each of the 5 continents, using the special five-coloured Rosaries. Rosie spoke about Priests and our appreciation for all they do for us.

Our activities have been limited due to age, ill-health and traffic problems. These included visits to the sick and Housebound Sodalists, 1st Saturday Mass and General Communion, our pilgrimage to the Mount, celebrating our Director’s Feast Day with a home cooked lunch for the priests.

Our Sodality Feast Day, as in years gone by was preceded by a Triduum preached by Frs. Jude and Andrew.

Feast Day-August 15th – The Day! Holy Mass at 9a.m in honour of Our Lady’s Assumption followed by a good breakfast .

I cannot end this report without thanking Mother Mary for being our Guide and Protector all these 122 years and we pray that she continue to do the same for us in the years to come. Thank you.
