GUIDELINES FOR ALL

OUR PARISH GROUPS / ASSOCIATIONS

as we go about,
"Building a Faith Community for Service"
St. Peters Church, Bandra
    1. Vision: Each group/association/zone should have a clear mission and a time bound plan of action for the year. While keeping to the Charism of the group, the groups mission and action plan must be in keeping with the Parish mission and values. This should be handed over to the Parish Priest at the beginning of the academic year (latest by 29th June).

    2. Spirituality: The Spirituality of the group is essential if we want to work in the spirit of Christ, therefore:
      a. All members must be led to a personal Relationship with Jesus, through prayer and they must be led to a deeper knowledge of the Bible (MTSA 3 &4)
      b. Being a Jesuit Parish, members of the group should be at home with Ignatian spirituality.
      c. Every Group meeting should start and end with a prayer and the running of the group should be conducted in the spirit of the parish values.

    3. Leadership:
      a. There should be a regular rotation of leaders (PSD 67.1). A maximum term in office would be three years. A person may be re-elected after a three year gap.
      b. Leadership of the group may be open to parishioners and non-parishioners alike.
      c. Leaders must always find ways to build other members of the group.

    4. Participation & A Collaborative Way of Governing:
The Mindset of the Clergy, religious and laity in the Church, has to change from the pyramidal up-down style to the collaborative way of governing… treating each other as equal partners and collaborators in mission. (PSD ), Therefore:
      a. The Priest coordinator should see how he can hand over as much of the running of the group to the laity so that they may fulfill their role as the Lord calls them. He should also give enough freedom and space for them to work using their own creativity and talents. Yet, the group Chaplain will be the one who takes final decision in controversial matters relating to the group.
      b. There should be a clear division of roles and responsibility for each member of the group with a system of accountability and regular evaluation.
      c. Groups should be ever open to others and Recruiting new members young and old should be an on going process in every group - If we do not get members, the group needs to work harder being ready to adapt to new situations.
      d. Participatory decision-making procedures should be followed (PSD 67.1)

    5. On-going Formation: The group should see that regular formation programmes are held for members and others every year.

    6. Finances: Financial Co-responsibility and transparency of the group is a must (PSD 67.3) and in keeping with the instructions of the Archbishop no group/ association /zone may have any private Bank account. All monies of groups will be entered into the Church account and cheques to be drawn in the name of St. Peters Church. Each group will have a separate ledger head in the Church accounts and can add or draw out money as needed for the functioning of the group and its activities.

    7. Evaluation: Regular evaluation of members and activities is a must, therefore a periodically evaluation of the functioning of persons in leadership, and the groups is essential to ensure accountability in a professional manner. (PSD 68.8)

All for the Greater Glory of God
